For Service Providers, Government Agencies, and Private Organizations
- Technical assistance/consultation on topics such as Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) and mental health
prevention and treatment; culturally-sensitive services; and historical/cultural understanding of API
communities.
- Management/coordination of multi-agency API ATOD-related projects.
- Social research and policy analysis concerning API populations.
- Advocacy and community organizations.
Description of Selected NAPAFASA Projects
- Asian and Pacific Islander Substance Abuse Technical Assistance and Training Project, State of California
(Current). Funded by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, this NAPAFASA project offers to
API organizations and service providers on-site technical assistance, including program planning and clinical
training.
- Problem Gambling Prevention Technical Assistance and Training Project, State of California (Current).
Funded by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, Office of Problem Gambling, the purpose of this
project is to educate the public and train a broad range of service providers, government agency personnel, and
community leaders to help prevent and/or treat problem gambling.
- Recovery Month (Current). NAPAFASA serves as a planning partner for the Center for Substance Abuse
Treatment's annual Recovery Month program held in September every year. NAPAFASA is involved in activities that
focus on recognizing and supporting the API recovering community.
- Asian American and Pacific Islander Impaired Driving Prevention Project, State of California (Past).
Funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, this project is focused on reducing impaired driving and
related fatalities and injuries among Asian American and Pacific Islanders in California. This pilot project
specifically targets the Korean American population in Los Angeles's Koreatown.
- Parent Corps (Past). The goal of the Parent Corps is to reduce substance abuse in our communities by
establishing a statewide and national level network of parents committed to substance abuse prevention and their
local communities. NAPAFASA is the State Partner for California.
- Pacific Island Initiative Project (Past). This multi-tasked project targets the six Pacific Island
jurisdictions (Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Samoa).
It offers technical assistance on mental health and substance abuse treatment, data collection, paraprofessional
worker training, capacity building, and policy analysis and strategic planning. This project is funded by the
Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, and the Center for Mental Health
Services through a cooperative agreement with the Office of Minority Health.
